Yoga supplies, Yoga mats, and accessories
Welcome
to Yogaconservatory.com. Our site is dedicated to gathering and disseminating
information about yoga supplies. Yogaconservatory.com is purely informational
and does not promote or endorse any particular product or method.
Our site is designed to educate about how yoga supplies can increase
flexibility, strength and provide peace of mind during practice.
At a minimum you will need loose clothing at a yoga
mat to practice yoga. You can purchase clothing specifically
designed for yoga at a yoga
supplies store. For example, there are yoga T-shirts, pants,
shorts, sandals, etc.
You will also need other yoga supplies to increase your strength and
flexibility during yoga practice. Most studios will provide the equipment.
However, some beginners are intimidated by classes and would prefer
to practice in the privacy of their own home. Even advanced students
can't always make it to class because of busy schedules and need to
practice at home.
For these students buying yoga supplies and setting up a yoga studio
in a den or study is an ideal solution. In fact, yoga supplies are so
compact that they can easily be stored in a closet when not in use.
Beginners should purchase yoga
DVDs. These yoga supplies provide step-by-step instructions
on how to safely get in and out of poses. (Of course, anyone with a
pre-existing medical condition should consult with your doctor before
starting an independent yoga practice at home.)
Advanced yoga students will also enjoy yoga DVDs because they provide
reminders on proper technique so that you can get the most out of your
practice. In addition, the calming music helps to keep your breath even
and promotes a relaxing workout. Yoga lessons are even available on
iTunes for the computer in video format and can be downloaded. You can
also use a yoga CD if you do not have video access in your studio.
Other supplies you will need to know about if you decide to practice
yoga in your own home include:
• Yoga blocks-these props are approximately 6 inches x 9 inches
x 3 inches and are made of foam or cork. They provide support during
such poses as downward dog or warrior three in the warrior series.
• Yoga straps-these are loops that run between 6 feet to 9 feet
and have a buckle or clasp on one end. They are used to intensify a
stretch. For example, in a hamstring stretch you would straighten your
leg and make it active while looping the strap around your foot and
pulling on it.
• Yoga ball-this is an inflatable ball approximately 20 to 30
inches in diameter. It is also used in physical therapy. The ball promotes
good posture and can be used for core strengthening exercises. In fact,
you can even use the ball when sitting at your desk or watching TV to
remind you of your posture.
These yoga supplies are relatively inexpensive and allow you to practice
any time of day to feel the benefits of yoga. Of course, eventually
you will want to work toward going to class more so that you can get
individualized tips from your instructor and enjoy the social aspects
of a yoga class.
