Yoga mat

No matter how crowded your class you can perform all the exercises on your yoga mat. Yoga teachers stress that this is a metaphor for practitioners' place in the world. No matter where you are, you can carve out a space for yourself.

You might have 100 people in a yoga class, but if every person can fit their yoga mat in the room, then every person has enough space. The teacher calls this "your own 6' x 3' universe." In this space you can relax and perform all the requisite exercises.

This lesson makes personalizing the yoga mat important to some practitioners. Because the mat can become a symbol they purchase mats with designs that express their personalities. In addition, the color and texture must make them feel comfortable as it reminds them how they can feel comfortable that matter what the circumstance outside the classroom.
