Yoga mats

Yoga mats help you increase your flexibility during class. Relaxing muscles is one of the key goals in yoga. To achieve greater flexibility a number of exercises are included in the routine that involve yoga mats.

Yoga mats provide the stability needed to stretch your muscles. For example, in downward dog you press your heels against the ground to stretch out your tendons. Yoga mats prevent students from slipping during the stretch.

The warrior series also requires yoga mats. This series is designed to increase openness in the chest and hips but would be difficult to perform without the mats. Students ground their feet into their mats as they open their hips and reach their arms toward the sky or the front of the room.
